Latter-day Saints, Italy

This project was developed in Rome during the construction of one of the most significant temples in Europe of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It began as an attempt to understand the Mormon community beyond its public image.

Founded in the 19th century in the United States, the Church is structured around a strong internal hierarchy and sustained by the financial contribution of its members. While it identifies as Christian, its beliefs and practices often set it apart from other denominations.

The work focuses on a group of members based in Rome and Ladispoli, moving between their homes and everyday environments. It looks at how religious practice is embedded in daily life, not only through formal rituals but also through private routines and family structures.

Particular attention is given to younger members. Their lives are shaped by a system of rules that regulate behavior and personal choices, from substance use to social conduct. These restrictions are not presented as abstract principles but as lived conditions.

Rather than confirming expectations, the project reveals a more complex reality, one that resists simplified representations and opens questions about belonging, discipline, and individual agency within a tightly defined framework.
